OUR HOUSE

Our house in Hay is decorated to high standards - our standards! The house is designed to be a gathering place for small groups or families, with comfortable custom furniture, art and antiques.  Our commitment to a good night's sleep includes duvet covers from Casaluna and Piglet in Bed, linen robes, down duvets and pillows, and organic towels.  The two king beds feature Loaf's famous mattresses, designed for a good night's sleep or lazy mornings in bed.  Three bathrooms, one with a tub and two with showers, allow enough space for everyone to get ready at the start of the day, and soaking in the clawfoot bath tub with a good book is not to be missed.

Throughout the house we feature art from local and international artists including Martha de Chazal, Gael Cassidy, Claire Downs Whitehurst and local watercolorist Bob Cornish. Ceramics from Jos Dewey can be found throughout the home.

If you want to relax at home, snuggle up by the fire with a movie - or enjoy the sound of vinyl records or dual-room bluetooth, both connecting from the living room.  We have Scrabble, games and a growing selection of books.  Of course, if you are short of something to read, step out of the front door and our closest bookshop is just steps away.

For guests that love to cook, our small kitchen is well equipped and indoor-outdoor dining is a joy, especially in the summertime. We supply a Weber barbecue and the dining table outside seats six with ease.  Borrow a basket or bring your own, and enjoy shopping at Castle Greengrocers for cheese, fresh fruit and vegetables, local wine and cider and more.  Hay Deli is nearby, with olives, more local cheeses, bread and a fantastic selection of gourmet and wholefoods and well-chosen wine.  Pick up fresh flowers, sourdough made with locally-milled grain and more at the weekly Hay Market every Thursday, and in summer time, look for extra markets at Hay Castle and on Saturdays.

OUR TOWN

Hay (Y Gelli Gandryll in Welsh) sits on the border between England and Wales. With a population of 2,000 that swells to 100,000 during the world-famous Hay Festival, Hay offers a lifestyle shift for visitors with a vibrant local market, a wonderful green grocer steps away from our house, a well-stocked deli and some great local restaurants.  Hay features more than twenty unique book shops as well as a host of other local independent shops that you will not find anywhere else.  The River Wye snakes through the town, and Hay is sometimes called the East Coast of Wales because of the swimming and boating activities we have on our doorstep.  For those that prefer to keep their feet dry (weather permitting), footpaths from Hay lead up to Hay Bluff, Offa's Dyke and a variety of walks to suit everyone.
